Hiking, Biking, Skiing and Outdoor Recreation

Cross Country Skiing in Lava Hot Springs
If outdoor recreation is in your plans you will find hiking, biking and skiing in the surrounding mountains. Enjoy cross-country skiing in Lava's hills and mountains. Take in an exhilarating day of downhill skiing at Pebble Creek Ski Area or "Feel the Thrill" at Lava Zipline.  See the scenery on Horseback.

Cool off on a hot summer day at the Olympic Swimming Complex or tubing down the Portneuf River. Warm up on a cold winter day with a soak in the pristine mineral water at Idaho’s World Famous Hot Springs, especially soothing after a day of skiing or hiking. You can go fishing along the banks of the Portneuf River in Lava and several locations nearby including Chesterfield Reservoir and Bear River. Idaho State fishing permits are required and available in Lava.

Lava Hot Springs hot pools
_Historical tours of Lava Hot Springs can be arranged for those interested in the history of this long established resort community, founded in 1915. For over 100 years people have come to Lava Hot Springs to partake of the healing waters. Before white man settled here Indians of the Northwest gathered at the hot mineral waters to bathe, rest and worship. This area was neutral ground shared by all tribes. We encourage you to visit the Bannock Historical Museum on Main Street to discover more about Lava Hot Springs and the surrounding area.

Shopping in Lava Hot Springs
Main Street is adorned with a variety of unique shops, a library and dining establishments, many of which are family owned and operated. Several city parks are available for picnics. Supplies can be purchased at the local grocery store. The Lions Club offers Bingo every Wednesday & Friday evening and Sunday afternoon at the Blue Moon Saloon. There is a walking path at the Lions Park & Rodeo Arena near the river. See the Southeast Idaho Vacation Guide for skiing, fishing, bike trails, snowmobile trail maps and more!
